It usually takes about a week to carbonate 5 gallons of beer at serving pressure. In this video we show you how to carbonate a beer in 30 minutes. The trick is to get your beer really cold before beginning (34F is perfect) and to not push it too far so you don’t end up over carbonating.
Alternatively, you can leave your keg hooked up to CO2 while shaking (we can’t because our kegerator is too full to allow room for shaking the kegs). This will reduce the amount of time it takes to carbonate but also increases the risk of over carbonation. So, if you leave the gas hooked up, error on the side of caution or you could end up with a foamy mess.
